Islamic Cemeteries in Baghdad Through the Book "The History of Baghdad" by Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi (d. 463 AH / 1071 AD): A Historical Study
Abstract
Islamic law governs not only human life but also their afterlife, beginning with the grave, which is an honor from God. Burial and cemetery rules were established in Islamic law, particularly emphasized during the Abbasid period. Baghdad was home to many cemeteries, highlighted by Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi in "The History of Baghdad." The study covers three sections: an introduction to Baghdad and Al-Khatib, the meaning of cemeteries in Islamic texts, and a discussion on the eleven cemeteries mentioned by Al-Khatib, mostly from the Abbasid era.
