The Semantic Implication of the Word "Al-ʿAqr" in the Holy Qur’an – A Thematic Study
Abstract
The roll of the aqar was mentioned in the Holy Qur’an in only five verses. In four verses, the verb was attributed to all the people of Hood, and the verb was attributed in one verse to the subject only, and the aqr indicates several meanings. The first: a wound or something similar to a wound caused by damage to something. The second: indicates stability and permanence, and barrenness: infertility, which is the sterility of the womb, which is not to become pregnant, and it also applies to every high structure, and the Qur’anic expression came by attributing barrenness, which is from the verb of some of them to all of them due to circumstances, or because it was with their consent. The Holy Qur’an attributed barrenness to the perpetrator. Only in Surat Al-Qamar, but in the rest of the surahs the verb is assigned to the whole.
