MORPHOLOGICAL VIEWS OF YAHYA IBN ZIYAD AL-FARRA IN IBN ASFUR'S BOOK "AL-MUMTA' FI AT-TASRIF".
Abstract
The science of morphology constitutes a system of rules similar to other Arabic linguistic sciences. This research provides a concise summary of the morphological views of the renowned scholar Yahya ibn Ziyad al-Farra, particularly as presented in the book "Al-Mumta' fi at-Tasrif" by Ibn Asfur. It highlights the prominent areas where the latter conveyed al-Farra's views on word patterns, assimilation, augmentation, deletion, vowelization, substitution, metathesis, softening, and more. The study presents and evaluates these opinions, exploring the stance taken by other scholars who adopted them. The significance of this subject lies in al-Farra's stature as one of the leading scholars of Kufa and the head of its school after al-Kisai. Therefore, delving into and discussing his views holds paramount importance, underscoring the need to document and analyze his perspectives in the realm of morphology.
